Marari Beach, Mararikulam, Kerala

Mararikulam, Kerala

Marari Beach is located in the Alapuzha district in Kerala. The resort is a carefully nurtured biodiversity sanctuary that transcends the typical sun, surf and sand themes of most beach resorts.

Far indeed from the madding crowd and far removed from the wild clamor of trendy hotspots and beach raves, Marari’s leitmotifs are space and silence. 55 acres of mind expanding space is quite literally what you can expect and experience here. The property is a vast green sprawl punctuated with lotus ponds and whispering coconut groves woven through and highlighted with stone-flagged pathways. A wind-break of palms runs the length of the property. And beyond lies only sand, sea and sky murmuring their secret enchantments to those willing to listen.

From ₹15,200 per room per night

Inspired by the gentle and rustic culture of the local fisherfolk, Marari Beach offers complete relaxation in a tranquil setting. From the thatched cottages to the eclectic cuisine, everything here echoes the simplicity and harmony of Malabar’s coast. A nature lover’s paradise, this coast is comprised of many complex ecosystems, giving you the opportunity to discover an array of exciting species of plants, butterflies, birds and creatures of the sea. Far removed from the madding crowd, here you can soak in space and silence.

Amongst 55 acres of sprawling land and alongside the fish landing, you can enter the wondrous world of the fisherfolk: from hauling in the treasures of the sea, to bargaining for the best price at the bustling market.

At Marari Beach, nature is your constant companion. The bracing, gentle sun caresses your skin, embracing you in warmth as you stroll, swim or sit by the sea. For nature lovers, Marari showcases a rare and vibrant diversity. Our naturalists will tell you about the complex ecosystems that define the unique ecology of the Malabar coasts.

Coconut groves stretch as far as the eye can see, and small ponds, alive with aquatic life, dot the lush green landscape. We have catalogued 97 species of butterflies, 350 species of endemic plants, 3 varieties of turtles, 10 types of frogs and around 80 species of birds that you will encounter here, depending on the season.

At CGH Earth, our every thought and action is rooted in preserving and nurturing our environment. Waste management is a sacred ritual for us, as we segregate degradable and non-degradable waste, recycling food waste in our biogas plant to generate gas for the kitchens, while recycling every bit of dry waste we generate. Further to this, Marari Beach has outed around 45,000 units of packaged drinking water in plastic bottles from its waste stream, replacing them with RO treated water, packaged in reusable glass bottles, with an aim to reduce waste generation.

CGH Earth also cares immensely for the people of the land we inhabit. We work alongside local farmers to grow produce that is not just good for us, but also good for the land. The nearby fishing community is an integral part of our resort. We source fresh seafood from our fishermen, while the women of the village weave palm leaves for our annual roof thatching of the cottages and sell us products they make from homespun coconut fibre.

We also work with local schools and governing bodies, encouraging the students of the community to eat healthy from a young age.

The cottages at Marari reflect the culture and lifestyle of the fisherman community. Infused with a strongly native aesthetic, the roofs are thatched with coconut leaves. Our bathrooms echo nature, to offer you the experience of bathing under the open skies. The serene, balmy private pools and sea breeze lull you into deep relaxation.

There are three types of rooms at Marari: Garden Villas, Garden Pool Villas and Deluxe Garden Villas with Private Pool.

At our Organic Farm Kitchen, you can savour a dining experience like no other. Pick fresh vegetables, fruits and herbs from our garden, and participate in an interactive cooking session with our chefs to learn the subtleties of various local delicacies. This gastronomic encounter leads to a sumptuous meal with the chef, as a guest at his high table.

The 12 acres of the property dedicated to organic farming are primarily managed by local farmers, who retain the traditional wisdom of the land.

Prepare to sit down and smack your lips at our delectable seafood menu at the Beach Grill. Offering an array of dishes crafted with the finest ingredients, featuring the catch of the day and accentuated with aromatic spices, here you can discover the coast in every bite.

Any seafood lover must definitely try our chef’s recommendations, which include freshly caught squid grilled with our signature blend of masalas – truly a treat for the gods.

At Chakara restaurant, you can choose from the best of Indian and continental cuisines at our buffet, serenaded by vast greenery. Enjoy a cup of steaming chai at the tea stall as you stroll around the resort, before unwinding for the night at our clubhouse bar.

Amenities and Services:

Simplicity and care are the defining elements of our cottages and villas at Marari. Made mostly with local materials and infused with a native aesthetic, these become abodes of pleasure and privacy of an unusual kind to make you feel truly at home. You will note with delight that the bathrooms – our piece de resistance – have been designed to mimic nature as you get to bathe under open skies with rustling leaves, whispering winds and shimmering stars for company. Again, in a departure from the norm, our rooms have no TV. Our reasoning for this was a simple one: Why would you need a TV when you could watch spectacular sunsets, rolling ocean waves and swaying trees displayed live before you each day?
